GLASGOW THEATRES . "Hold Everything , Clayton and Waller's new musical comedy, made its first appearance in this country last night, when it was presented at the Alhambra, Glasgow, and after a fortnight's stay at the Wellington Street house, the new piece goes to London. A comedy with sporting interests and a boxing hero, an abundance of good fun, and many musical numbers, more or less of the "catchy" variety , "Hold Everything " provides a delightful evening's entertainment , and despite the summer-like conditions last night, scarcely an empty seat was to be seen in tho theatre . As the boxing hero, Owen Nares has a role which suits him admirably, while the vivacious Mamio Watson gives a finished representation of Sue O'Keefe, daughter of a training camp keeper . The fun is kept going merrily by George Gee (Spike) , ably assisted by John Kirby (Chubby Dudley Bartlett) , and ether prominent members of the company include Pamela Carmo, Sonny Jarmann, a young New York star making his debut in this country , Percy Parsons , and Charles Mortimer. From the Era, 29 May, 1929. .... and another well played part was the trainer, O'Keefe, by Charles Mortimer. From the Era 19 June, 1929. .... Mr Charles Mortimer keeps his end up well as O'Keefe. From the Dundee Evening Telegraph 25 June, 1929. OWEN NARES THROWS UP THE SPONGE. Musical Comedy Boxing Part Resigned. It was announced last night that Mr Nares has resigned his part as the boxing hero of " Hold Everything." the new musical comedy at the Palace Theatre. It is stated that Mr Owen Nares' action is not on account of disagreement with Messrs Clayton and Waller, the producers, or with any member of the company. He simply feels that he is not doing his best work as a "legitimate" actor part where boxing and singing are essential qualifications, and that these things at any rate could be done better by somebody else. He has agreed to remain in the cast until another actor has been engaged. Messrs Clayton and Waller have not as yet made any choice. |
