"A Winters Tale" was produced in Liverpool by Mr Gatner, according to the Royal Cornwall Gazette of 23 September, 1876.
The newspaper commented:
"In the performance of this exquisite play, the lessee has been satisfied to rely upon the powers of his stock company, without material and from the Metropolitan boards, and the manner in which the different characters were rendered by Mesdames Gatner,Taylor,Cameron, Messrs Dewhurst, Newton, Darley, Gibson, Lewis, Bernard, Mortimer etc. proves that his reliance was not misplaced."
"...and the one speech of Chronos was admirably given by Mr Charles Mortimer, whose elocution was of the good old-fashioned school."
