According to the paper, there was a Temporary Council of the Stage Guild in place. Apart from Charles Mortimer, other luminaries on the council included Arthur Wontner, Lady Wyndham, Godfery Tearle, Sir Gerald du Maurier, Marie Lohr, Evelyn Laye, and Gladys Cooper. of The Era 8 October, 1913.
Mr. Charles Neil Mortimer, a pupil of Phelps and an actor who had played in the historic Shakesperean revivals at Sadler's Wells, passed away on the 27th July, his death being immediately due to the shock caused by the decease of his beloved wife a few days before. Mr. Mortimer was one of the few male Mazeppas, and performed the role at old Astley's in 1862. |
