DEATH OF MRS CHARLES MORTIMER The above estimable lady, professionally known as Miss Emily Gibson, died somewhat suddenly from bronchitis at Ashton-under-Lyme on Saturday last.The deceased was the daughter of John Gibson (of the celebrated trio, Brown, King and Gibson of the Adelphi Theatre, then under the Yates management). Mr Mortimer , who was performing at Burnley with Mr Frank Fuller's Company, was telegraphed for, but unfortunately arrived too late to see his wife alive. The loss is deeply regretted by a large circle of sorrowing friends. |

Charles Mortimer, the actor, has died at the age of 79. He went on the stage in early childhood, appearing on the halls in sketches with his father, also Charles Mortimer. After years in the provinces in all kinds of plays, he became an established West End player about 40 years ago, and is remembered for performances in such well known productions as "Young Woodley", "Late Night Final", "The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse" and "Escort."
